The power of Ideas worth spreading, Jon Yeo event wrap up!

WEDNESDAY 16TH AUGUST

We all learned about the Power of “IDEAS WORTH SPREADING.” with Jon Yeo.

Jon Yeo opened with a gracious address

“One of the things that people told me before coming here is that the people that attend are all remarkable people, hallmarks of the Digital Womens Network, I feel very privileged to come here tonight”

Focus for this year’s event is all about; Rebels, Revolutionaries and Us

  • Revolutions happen over a span of decades
  • It’s the small things that we do continuously that make a difference over the long term
  • Revolution is not in the individual, it is in the idea
  • It’s the fact that the individual attaches himself to the idea and gets excited about it.
  • What do they do differently? Can we be a part of the quiet revolution?
  • When we set a goal that’s bigger than ourselves, we need to be able to make more mistakes and persist, fall over and persist, learn along the way and persist.
  • That’s what makes a revolutionary a revolutionary.
  • That’s exactly what you do as an entrepreneur.

Community

Beginning in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run events help share ideas in communities around the world. Driven to create a space where people can come together and share ideas.

When you get that dynamic among people, when people understand that we are with them and they are with us, that’s when great community happens.

Interaction is very important, great ideas never happen in vacuumJust like the Darwinian theory. Darwin observation was that birds and turtles in the centre of the archipelago were evolving faster than those that were further out.

The reason was that there was more concentration and intensity of the migrating creatures in the centre that accelerated their development. This is exactly the same with ideas

Human connection in Marketing

– As marketers, we are so hell bent on getting people’s attention that we overlook the human connection

-This is where Apple and Tesla are different

-Marketers often miss the point when selling a brand story about the value we are creating for the community. A great example is the Western Sydney Uni video feat. Deng Adult.

Every marketer seems to be excited by features and benefits, however, engagement of a company with people happens at various levels

  • Level 1 : The environment – For marketers this is thought leadership and reputation
  • Level 2 : Accessibility – Where do they need to go to find what they are looking for
  • Level 3 : Individual level, trust, relation, connection
  • Level 4 : Product, service, idea. Problem with most marketing is that it starts with level 4
  • Level 5 : What causes a person to get excited by what you do? Loyalty

All communication must address all those 5 levels to deliver a successful message

-It’s important to know who your customer is

Nike has had the same tagline for so many years. Because they know who their community is. They know them so well that they created a shoe line for a specific suburb!

Human connection above all is what drives everything.
